Area Plastic Surgeon Dr. Paula Moynahan Provides “Self Esteem Enhancement” Through Breast Enlargement

Middlebury, Connecticut, February 10, 2015 – “More and more women desire larger breasts for feelings of increased self-esteem. Well-formed breasts of any size make a woman feel better about herself. Postoperative surveys document that breast enhancement surgery increases self-confidence for women and helps make a woman’s body appear more feminine and proportioned,” stated Dr. Paula Moynahan, a renowned plastic surgeon in Connecticut and New York. “Women of varying ages and lifestyles are safely obtaining fuller, more proportionately-appealing figures, and experiencing more confidence in themselves and their appearances through breast implants,” stated Dr. Moynahan. “They are choosing this procedure to feel better about themselves because breast enlargements often provide a high level of personal satisfaction and improved overall quality of life.” A double-board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Moynahan explained, “The decision for breast enlargement is personal and individual. Each woman chooses this surgery for reasons that fulfill her own expectations and goals. It is not just about looking better, but rather a deep-seated desire to be satisfied with all aspects of her life.

Women who choose this procedure report a significantly enhanced sense of beauty, body image, self-esteem, and sexual satisfaction.” Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) cite that breast enhancement, or augmentation as it is known in the medical arena, is the most frequent cosmetic procedure performed today. Surveys show that in 2013 over 290,200 such surgeries were performed by ASPS surgeons. “That number represents a growth of 37% since 2000. This is a highly individualized procedure that a woman should do for herself, not to fulfill another’s idea of what constitutes beauty.

It’s a reasonable option for a woman who considers her breasts too small or losing shape and volume after a pregnancy or weight loss or aging. Breasts vary in size or shape and sometimes fail to develop normally. In addition to increasing the fullness and projection of the breasts, breast augmentation improves the balance and proportion of a woman’s figure. It achieves the size, spacing, symmetry, and configuration on the chest that is in accord with each woman’s preference.” “Maria”, a Greater Waterbury resident, stated, “This procedure gave me a boost of confidence, and when you have that you believe you can achieve anything. It actually made my life easier because I know I am so much more than a body. I simply wanted to feel comfortable and confident in my own skin.” At 5 feet and ¾ inches in height, she was flat-chested, petite “Maria” felt her body was “very unbalanced.” “For me, my body was way out of proportion and every woman has an image of what she should look like.” At age 17 she began thinking about breast enhancement. “It was something I wanted to do because I believed my body did not develop fully and it was a confidence thing for me. I wanted to look good in my clothing and nothing fit my proportions. That is the beauty of having a surgeon like Dr. Moynahan who can help create exactly the image desired.” Currently age 36, “Maria” underwent surgery at age 26 because, “This is an elective surgery and a life-changing decision, so I had many questions.”

Dr. Moynahan and “Maria” discussed the pros and cons of silicone vs. saline breast implants and “Maria” explained that she, “Met with Dr. Moynahan at least five times until I was fully comfortable with what would happen and fully understood the risks involved. Every time I called with a question, she rapidly returned the call and provided me with her expert insights. While I was absolutely comfortable with Dr. Moynahan, it was those meetings and phone conversations that gave me the confidence to choose this surgical procedure, and I am fully satisfied with the results.” “Maria” stated that Dr. Moynahan told her to anticipate a recovery period of up to two weeks, and she stated, “My surgery was on a Monday and I was back to my prominent job within the public arena by Friday. For one month after the procedure, I checked in with Dr. Moynahan once every week so we were both confident all was fine as it was a bit overwhelming.” When asked if she would recommend this procedure for other women, “Maria” replied, “Yes, but they should not proceed until they are totally educated as to what will take place in the surgery and the expected results. I believe a woman would be happy with the results, and I’m certain it would make her feel better about herself.” MOMMY MAKEOVERS: Many post-partum mothers today are choosing “Mommy Makeovers” to gain more self-confidence and esteem. “During pregnancy,” Dr. Moynahan explained, “a woman’s breasts naturally enlarge and often result in a fuller curvy figure. After the baby is weaned, the breasts deflate and lose that new-found volume and decrease in size. A woman may see her body bounce back to shape after the pregnancy but her breasts did not. To some women’s surprise, they shrink to a size smaller than they were before the pregnancy.

Breast augmentation is a very common choice for women who want fuller, firmer and pert breasts. It is actually the most common ‘Mommy Makeover’ procedure in the United States today.” “Suzanne” a 28-year-old young mother in the Greater Waterbury region, commented,  “One year after giving birth to my son, I wanted to obtain a ‘boost’ to my breasts. While I had previously thought about breast enlargements before becoming a mother, it was more for selfish reasons. After my pregnancy and breastfeeding it was a concern that was weighing on how I looked.” As a nurse, she was familiar with some of the complications and what could potentially happen with breast enlargement surgery. “I was afraid of encapsulation and potential loss of sensation in the nipples. Dr. Moynahan discussed with me all the potential complications and the surgery actually went very well and I healed wonderfully. A concern during the recovery time was lifting my then-1-year-old son out of his crib and changing his diaper. So I was cautious so it all went very smoothly because I took many precautions including not lifting anything heavy or lifting my arms above my head. Once my breasts were healed there were no restrictions.” When asked why she did not wait until her son was a toddler to have the procedure, “Suzanne” replied, “I prefer to have a nice body and we had a couple of vacations planned where I’d in a bathing suit a lot of the time in the coming year.” As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Moynahan added, “Breast size and shape are important so a woman should be honest and open with herself and the surgeon she consults with about her expectations. Implant type and size will be determined by the surgeon based not only on the desire to increase the breast to the desired size, but more importantly on the woman’s breast anatomy, her skin elasticity, and her body type. Because breast augmentation surgery is such a personal choice, it’s important a woman determine her goals and the benefits she wants to achieve. It’s my experience that most women who undergo breast augmentation procedures feel more attractive and fulfilled within just two weeks after surgery. It may take up to two months before they realize zero sensitivity loss, the final shape and size of their breasts, and the ability to truly experience the full benefits of their choice. The physical change transforms their psychological sense of self because larger breasts are known to increase a woman’s sense of being feminine and positive self and body image.”
